This 4th of July was going to be different then all the rest. It was the first one that we were away from all of our family for. So I thought we would have our friend Jose over but he went to Florida for the holiday. I also thought we could have Jason's Aunt Sheryl over but she went out of town too. I was kind of sad that it was just going to be us so I decided we should go to Lubbock. The idea came up that we should go to Colorado to visit Jason's Dad and his wife but after just getting back from a long exhausting trip to WA, we decided against an 8 hour drive with a baby who already hates her carseat as it is! So off to Lubbock it was to stay at our favorite hotel (embassy suites) and just have a relaxing 4th at Mackenzie Park...
I found out online that Lubbock was having a centennial celebration with a parade and street fair, concert and fire works so we decided to go to that. We got out of Hobbs around noon and were excited to get there. I thought Lacy would sleep the whole way there but she decided to fuss instead. Poor thing was so hot and tired!
I tried to get a pic of her screaming her head off but of course she stops when the camera comes out. Jason says she has a reputation to uphold as a "good baby"!
We got to Lubbock, checked into our hotel, fed the baby, took some pictures and headed out to the park.
After a long journey (the dang park was hard to find and it was even harder to find a decent place to park) we finally made it and found a place to lay out our blanket and relax. That didn't last long because I am not much for relaxing outdoors with a baby. There were ants crawling all over our blanket and all I could think was we are never going to make it until dark! My poor hubby was so annoyed! We decided to move. After we moved, I finally started to relax and I am so glad that we decided to stay. We had a great time! We ate real 4th of July food, corndogs, funnel cake, nachos, shaved ice! It was so nice to be able to spend time together as a family.
We also got lots of great pictures! We thought we would make it until dark so that we could watch the fireworks but Lacy woke-up from a nap grumpy and we knew it was time to head out. So besides all the bug bites we later discovered (thankfully, none on Lacy, that I can tell) and a grumpy Mommy- we had a great time in a beautiful place!
Beautiful blue eyes...
Lacy got to see some fireworks on T.V. that night at the hotel after her bath. The best we could do with a cranky, tired baby! She did seem to like them though.
